Green Smoothies Help Myasthenia Gravis

Green smoothies are for everyone but play a huge role in helping autoimmune disorders like Myasthenia Gravis. Packed with energy producing nutrients, vitamins and minerals, starting your morning with a green smoothie is better then your cup of joe any day.

Green Smoothies Help Myasthenia Gravis Symptoms

Green smoothies (and green juices) have helped keep my Myasthenia Gravis symptoms at bay and may very well have the ability to do the same for you too. I started making (and drinking) these super drinks a little over a year ago. I was doing the best I could after deciding to stop my monthly IVIG treatments but still had MG symptoms. I wasn’t able to walk any type of distance, I experienced daily double vision and had general weakness and fatigue plus a serious lack of energy daily.

Fast forward to now, a little over a year later and the symptoms I experience, especially the lack of energy and daily general exhaustion and fatigue have noticeably improved. I took a leap of faith and tried making these drinks, along with eating better, in hopes of helping my Myasthenia Gravis in one way or another. Well, because of these dietary changes, I am better in the best ways I could have hoped for (next to being totally MG-free anyway). I’m happy to take the noticeable boost in health as it has been a long road of ups and downs trying everything to feel better. Plus, I am equally as happy to share my experience with you because in the best case scenario, some of your MG symptoms improve and at the worst case scenario, you get on the road to being healthier than you were before.

Many reasons why these drinks are powerful will be listed below. Read on and please, for your own health, drink up.

Green Smoothies vs. Green Juices

Both are great options for a health boost. If choosing between the two, I would rather make a green smoothie on daily basis, and I do! I also add a green juice to my routine once a week and would defiantly recommend it.

  • Green Smoothie: Blended dark leafy greens with other vegetables or fruit with a liquid and ice.
  • Green Juice: Dark leafy green and other veggies and fruits go through a physical juicing machine, which pulls the fiber away from the starch/sugar.

How Do Green Smoothies Help Myasthenia Gravis?

Packed with energy producing nutrients, vitamins and minerals, a green smoothie is far better than your average cup of joe any day. These nutritious drinks will provide you with energy, nutrients, antioxidants and phytonutrients to fight disease and boost your body to its optimum health and healing ability. Listed below are just a few of the benefits green smoothies have to offer.

1. Easily Digestible Nutrients

They’re blended so because it’s already party broken down for your body, it’s much easier for your body to digest and absorb all of those vitamins, nutrients and minerals immediately, without taking up much of your body’s energy to do so. You’ll feel full and satisfied from the natural fiber and can save your energy for things that really matter during your day.

2. Vitamin & Antioxidant Packed

Most green smoothies are made with some kind of dark leafy greens. Kale or spinach are two greens most often used. This gives you a huge hit of vitamins and antioxidants like folic acid, B-vitamins, iron, and vitamin D and K, all of which reduce homocystine levels in your blood (which slows the aging, inflammation and the disease processes in the body).

Green smoothies are high in antioxidants and phytonutrients. Not only are you giving your body the best defenses for disease, but you are ingesting a variety of natural substances that are essential for optimum health and fitness.

3. Trace Minerals

Green smoothies have an insane amount of absorbable trace minerals that you can’t get in many other places, like:

  • calcium: much more absorbable as leafy green vegetables than any dairy product
  • magnesium: needed for ATP to produce energy in our mitochondria
  • manganese: for a healthy nervous system and cells
  • potassium: helps maintain hydration, helps keep body in an alkaline state to fight disease and inflammation better
  • selenium: an antioxidant that prevents cancer, liver detoxification and healthy thyroid function

4. Beta Carotene + Chlorophyll

Green smoothies also have high amounts of beta carotene, which have vibrantly colored antioxidants called carotenoids that give your skin a healthy glow because of their rich color. Think of your healthiest, most vegetable-loving friend, and how their skin literally glows. This is why. No beauty or anti-aging product will do what food naturally can.

Plus, green smoothies are rich with chlorophyll which some natural health experts say, enhances the immune system, purifies the blood and rejuvenates the body.

5Alkalizing

Fruits and vegetables are alkaline foods and many natural health experts claim that consuming these foods helps maintain a proper alkaline balance in the body.

6. Naturally Energy Boosting

Smoothies provide a powerful boost of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients without bogging down your digestive system. Since you are eating natural, whole foods in the most optimum form for your digestion and nutrient absorption, you will have more energy to get things done and enjoy your day.

7. Detoxification + Elimination

With all those vitamins and minerals, you also get amazing fiber to help speed the process up of getting any toxins out of your body in a fast and natural way. This is always a good thing, and can impact your energy. If you are sluggish and weighed down by toxins in your gut, it can make your Myasthenia Gravis flare up. A daily dose of green solves all of this.

8. Simple + Easy + Delicious

Green Smoothies take less than 5 minutes to make which is amazing for people with Myasthenia Gravis. We need to get the most nutrition with the least amount of physical prep work. Green smoothies will do that. Plus, It feels good, tastes good, and works hard for you from the inside out.

Green Smoothie A Day Keeps Myasthenia Gravis At Bay

I hope you start adding a green smoothie to your daily routine like I do. It takes consistency and being an active participant in bettering your health (and as always, listening to the treatment guidance from your neuro) to obtain better health. But regardless, the numerous health (and beauty) benefits these powerful little drinks provide our body is in my opinion very important. Also, when you feel like your ready to take on additional health boosting practices, buy a juicer and add a green juice into your routine.

  1. Can you recommend anything from the health food store? I don’t know if I’m up to making these from scratch. I’ve had MG for years and I’m having a tough time right now.

    1. Hi! I’m sorry to hear that. Yes, some items I make sure to have are bananas, spinach, coconut water, frozen berries and some form of nut butter – I personally like almond butter. You will want to make sure you are not allergic of course:) Also a good protein powder can be helpful. I used Vega and Sunwarrior for quite awhile. Chocolate and Vanilla are always safe flavors to give a try. A simple smoothie base can be as easy as 1 banana, a couple handfuls of spinach, 1-2 cups coconut water or regular spring water and a handful of berries. To add proteinjust throw a half to a full scoop of a plant based protein powder like the ones mentioned above and you are good to go for breakfast or a snack. I also like a spoon full of almond butter in my smoothies for calories and consistancy! I hope this helps and you need a wide range list other than smoothies go ahead and email me. You can find contact info HERE

  2. I have been taking green smoothies now and into my 6th week. I use spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber, celery (stalk and leaves), mint leaves and I mix it with green tea and sometimes ice water. In place of coffee in the morning I have this on an empty stomach. I am on Mestanon for Myasthenia Gravis and try to eat more healthy than before. I don’t use sugar, I stopped eating sweets etc. I had a hip repair operation in May and am still feeling a lot of discomfort and pain and waddle like a duck and because I walk crooked, it has affected my back so now I have back pain as well. I thought the green smoothies will help but there is no improvement in my hip at all. I suppose I will only know if the MG count is lower when I have a blood test in Jan/Feb? The only thing I can see and everybody else as well, is my skin. Yes it glows but also looks very youthfull and has done more than expensive creams I used to buy. But what use is a pretty skin if the body is falling apart???? I would rather be ugly and have an energetic healthy body. I feel very down in the dumps. How long does it take for the MG to get better….does it ever go away? I was diagnosed on 28th July 2015.

  3. I am so happy to find this website; the prescription drug given to my husband is not helping his Myasthenia gravis. I can hardly wait to try these recipes. I’ll be back to the website to reveal our results. Have a Blessed Day!
